If there are rules established for where features can be placed you will get an error message similar to this:

Polygons and Lines

Click the desired location in the map to start creating a polygon feature. Continue clicking to set  the location of each vertex. To finish the feature, click the first vertex again to complete the shape. Note that additional buttons appear next to the polygon icon in the upper left corner of the map to assist in feature creation. These buttons allow users to delete the last vertex (undo), cancel/discard the feature, or finish the polygon.

Select the Add Polygon button after drawing an initial shape to create a multi-polygon feature.

Select Submit to complete drawing and fill out a form of feature attributes.

Fill The Form

When the feature geometry creation is complete, click Submit to begin saving the data. A data entry form will pop-up for the user to fill out. Fill out the form completely; all fields presented to the user in this form are required. Some fields require manual entry with the keyboard, while others can be filled using drop-down menus (coded value domains in the Esri data model). Some fields may be restricted to only accept numbers, or a limited number of characters.  Note that for plot creation, Parent_ID is pre-populated from its parent feature (stand), and is read only.  Similarly, when creating a new Stand polygon feature, you may see an area field (e.g., Acres) which is auto-populated by the system and read-only.
