MobileMap: Tree and Log Popup Mode
Overview
MobileMap includes two main options for entering in tree and log data: default keyboard or popups. In popup mode, data are entered in custom user interfaces that are displayed as popups over the tree list. Popups can be configured to determine which fields use popups and in some cases, how the popups are displayed and what values are available.
Popups are generally used for fields that use Coded Value Domains, but can be configured to work for fields that do not.
Settings are included to chose the mode (disabled, codes, descriptions, both), the number of columns to use when displaying values in the popup (1-5) and a configuration in which particular fields can be set as well as the domain values to use. This setting allows for subsetting domains, or even the use of pseudo-domains (picklist that is not driven by Coded Value Domains).
Enabling Tree and Log Popup Mode
Open MobileMap Settings in Settings > MobileMap Cruise > Trees > Tree and Log Popup Mode
Â
Note: The default setting is ‘Disabled’.
Next set the number of Tree and Log Popup Columns
Set the Tree and Log Popup Fields for fields with Coded Value Domains (CVD)
Coded Value Domains (CVD) will automatically have popups, you do not need to add these fields to the Popup Fields list. If you would like to constrain the fields that have popups or limit the attributes available you can do this in the Tree and Log Popup Fields
Here the Species codes have been constrained to two species: DF and WF

Set the Tree and Log Popup Fields for fields without CVD
If a field does not have a coded value domain you can still use the popup function by defining the codes for the field
In this example the Species fields and Component fields are list with the code and description
Syntax from MobileMap
Format is fieldname:code1/description1,code2/description2;field2:code1/description1,code2/description2 (e.g., 'Species:DF/Douglas fir,WH/western hemlock' - without quotes).  If field name is included and field uses Coded Value Domain (CVD) code/description pairs are not needed (e.g., 'Species;Product;).  Only those codes listed will be in popup (can be used to subset full list of codes).   Descriptions not needed if using field with CVD (e.g., 'Species:DF,WH,LP,PP;Product;).  Leave this setting blank to use keyboard-only data entry for all tree and log fields
Text fields Without Coded Value Domains
Starting at MobileMap 4.4.28, text fields without coded value domains can be used with Popup mode. When these fields are added to the tree and log popup fields setting, they will display the following keyboard to enable users to enter text data. The example below shows a popup for the Notes field, and displays a full alphanumeric keyboard. The ‘Aa’ button can be used to toggle between upper and lower case characters, as well as to access special characters. In the second image, upper case and special characters are displayed. Note that some special characters have been intentionally excluded to avoid conflicts when importing the data into some analysis software, such as FVS or TCruise.

Numeric Fields Without Coded Value Domains
Starting at MobileMap 4.4.28, numeric fields without coded value domains can be used with Popup mode. When these fields are added to the tree and log popup fields setting, they Numeric fields will display a numeric keyboard to enable users to enter numeric data. Note that the decimal point key will only be active for floating point (single, double) fields. The example below shows a popup for the DBH field, which in this case is an integer (short) and thus the decimal point is disabled. If the data model included a DBH field that supported measurements to the tenth inch, the decimal point would be enabled.
Stylus Only Tree and Log Popups
Similar to the standard use of tree and log popups, starting at MobileMap 4.4.28 there is an additional setting that configures tree and log popups for use in stylus only mode. This is important because it can prevent data entry issues when collecting field data in the rain or snow. To learn more about Stylus Only mode and Stylus Only Tree and Log Popups, see MobileMap: Stylus Only Mode
